Director Roland Emmerich (‘The Day After Tomorrow,’ ‘Stargate‘) has something big planned tonight for those of us who want to know a little bit more about his upcoming ‘Independence Day 2.’ Live from New Mexico, Emmerich and the cast of the sequel to ‘Independence Day’ are holding a press conference which will finally be revealing a few solid details about the film and, according to one rumor, the actual title of the movie as well. The teaser synopsis for the film has been light on information though we do know that it will be be taking place 20 years after the original on the eve of a new alien attack. This could also mean a more forthcoming synopsis is on the way as well.

With a once again star studded cast and a new science fiction disaster flick we should be in for a wild ride, visually at the very least. Emmerich has sometimes been thought of as more of a visual director than one focused on plot, so we’ll have to see how this one ends up. Even without the return of Will Smith I do have hopes that this will be at the very least a fun popcorn action flick.
