If you didn’t get enough of Matt Damon as an astronaut in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar,’ then you’ll be pleased to know that he’s returning to space once again in ‘The Martian.’ Based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir, Damon stars as a man trapped on the red planet after his mission was aborted. A star-studded cast makes up his crew that go back to save him against NASA’s orders, but there is some powerhouse talent behind the scenes as well since Ridley Scott is directed, Drew Goddard wrote the script, and Simon Kinberg is one of the producers. Recently, the world was able to get a glimpse at the upcoming film thanks to some images and a viral video teaser, but now we have the first official trailer for the movie.

Earlier today, 20th Century Fox debuted the first global trailer for their highly anticipated space adventure. It’s filled with exciting visuals, quick glances at the incredibly talented cast (which happens to include Kristen Wiig and Donald Glover in serious roles), and fun shots of Damon as he tries to “science the shit” out of his living arrangements so that he can survive until he’s rescued. Check out the trailer below, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.
