Ever since it was announced in 2012 that there would be at least three ‘Star Wars’ spinoffs in addition to the new trilogy starting with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, rumors have been circulating that said two of the movies would spotlight two of the most popular characters in a galaxy far, far away: Han Solo and Boba Fett. Eventually, we learned that the first ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film from Gareth Edwards would be the intergalactic heist film ‘Rogue One.’ That still left plenty of room for the Mandalorian bounty hunter and the notorious smuggler to have one film each. However, a new report has recently emerged saying that both legendary figures would indeed be involved in the spinoffs, but in the same movie.

Last month, various outlets reported that the ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film originally helmed by Josh Trank would tell the story of Boba Fett’s rise from Jango Fett’s orphaned child to one of the galaxy’s more feared hired hands. But now according to Schmoes Know, the film scheduled for 2018 will actually focus on the rivalry between Fett and Solo that developed between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope’, which was only alluded to briefly in the original trilogy. The movie is also rumored to have a strong Western influence and will feature other familiar faces like Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk.

While this rumor does sound awfully enticing (especially since we’ve heard a version of it before), everything is in a state of flux since no director has been named to replace Trank. With no one actively steering the ship right now, who knows how much it could deviate from the course? Although, the report also says that Lucasfilm has two very capable candidates to fill the vacant position. Apparently, ‘Iron Man’ director Jon Faverau and ‘X-Men: First Class’ director Matthew Vaughn are both being considered for the job. With Favreau’s history with Disney, I could definitely see him coming out the victor in this situation, but Vaughn has an excellent track record with treating beloved characters with care when exploring their formative years. Really, either one could be a great choice to direct the second ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film, but we’ll see what direction the studio really goes in.

What do you think about the latest rumor regarding the second ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film? Are you excited about the possibility of seeing Han Solo and Boba Fett face off in their own movie? And which filmmaker would you rather see replace Josh Trank as the director? Sound off in the comments.
