n the year 2016, the United States of America will definitely see a female President in the White House. This isn’t me declaring my political allegiances or anything like that because it will happen whether Hilary Clinton wins the election or not. Want to know how I know? Because Roland Emmerich’s ‘Independence Day 2’ has just made it so.

According to Deadline, Sela Ward has been cast as President Lanford in the upcoming sequel to the 1996 alien invasion film. No details are currently available regarding the character, but she will certainly have big shoes to fill as Bill Pullman’s President Thomas J. Whitmore is one of the most beloved U.S. Presidents in movie history. However, she may have the upper hand when the aliens return for another attempt at an invasion because Whitmore will be able to offer Lanford some valuable advice in dealing with the threat.

‘Independence Day 2’ also marks a reunion for Emmerich and Ward. Before starring in the acclaimed David Fincher thriller ‘Gone Girl’, recurring as Stacy Warner on ‘House’, or playing fan favorite Jo Danville on the popular CBS series ‘CSI: NY’, she appeared in the 2004 climate-based disaster film ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, and Emmy Rossum. With any luck, their latest collaboration will be as Earth shattering as the last one.

What do you think about Sela Ward playing the President of the United States in ‘Independence Day 2’? How do you think she will compare to Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore? Let us know in the comment section below.

‘Indeendence Day 2’ starring Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope, Joey King, and Bill Pullman invades theaters on June 24, 2015.
