Despite Joss Whedon’s constant mention that Agent Phil Coulson is still dead as far as his films are concerned, everything is connected in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is something that we’re reminded every week on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and last week’s episode acted as an excellent lead in for the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ which premiered in theaters a few days later. But now it appears that the first show set in the MCU will do more than preface a movie or show us the fallout of the events. Apparently, we’ll get to see some things explained tonight on ABC that was left out of the House of Ideas’ latest cinematic venture.

WARNING: If you haven’t seen ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, then there are some pretty big SPOILERS ahead.

In Whedon’s follow-up to his massively successful 2012 Marvel film, Nick Fury visits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at Hawkeye’s house in the middle of nowhere after they all get rattled by Ultron, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch. The former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. helps the team reassess the situation and offers them help. However, Fury then disappears until much later in the film where he reappears with a working Helicarrier, even though it was presumed that they were all lost when S.H.I.E.L.D. fell to HYDRA in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’

If you thought that these circumstances surrounding Nick Fury and the Helicarrier were rather peculiar, you weren’t the only ones. /Film had the opportunity to ask Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about this plot hole and he said that the answers are coming on a certain TV show:

/Film: Now, when Nick Fury goes away and comes back with a Helicarrier, that seems like a big chunk of off screen story. Is that something we might see referenced on ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’?

Feige: I think it’s fair to say you could fill in some of those blanks in the coming weeks on Tuesday at 9.

Be sure to be on the lookout for answers to glaring questions like “Where did Nick Fury hide a Helicarrier from HYDRA when S.H.I.E.L.D. fell?” and “How did he manage to get a crew to fly it in such short notice?” on this week’s episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..’ Although, I’m more concerned about finding out what the Avengers were doing before they assembled once again to face a new foe. For instance, how did Tony Stark get a new suit so soon after blowing up his entire armory? And where was Dr. Bruce Banner hanging out after his “therapy session” with his fellow Science Bro? I know that they mentioned that they were raiding HYDRA bases in the opening fight scene of the movie, but it still didn’t connect the other Phase Two films to ‘Age of Ultron’ very well. With any luck, the extended edition of the film will fill in some of those blanks, but it wouldn’t hurt to get some of these answers via Coulson, Hill, or some other S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that we see every week on television.

Though answers are forthcoming on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, how do you think Nick Fury managed to get a Helicarrier operational in time to help Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’? Are there any other plot holes that you hope will get addressed on the show before the season ends? Let us know in the comments.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Adrianne Palicki, Chloe Bennet, and Clark Gregg airs on Tuesdays at 9:00pm on ABC.
