Cyclops. Jean Grey. Storm. We’ve seen a number of the most iconic X-Men on the big screen thanks to Bryan Singer. But after the events of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, he’ll be showing them to us in a whole new way. With ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ taking place in the 80s, Fox’s Marvel mutant filmmaker will be bringing us younger versions of a number these fan favorite characters and today we got our first look at one of them, if you were quick enough.

Earlier today, Singer unveiled an image of Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, the lovable blue teleporting elf previously portrayed by Alan Cumming in 2003’s ‘X2’. The video depicting the character BAMF-ing in and out of sight made it onto his personal Twitter and Instagram before being retweeted by the official X-Men Twitter account. However, the original posts have been taken down for some reason and the video can no longer be seen:

Luckily, we managed to snag Nightcrawler in action before he disappeared again:

And here’s an official tweet from X-Men Movies:

Looking at his haircut, I’m having flashbacks to my high school days, but otherwise Smit-McPhee’s Nightcrawler is looking good so far. The last time the X-Man made it onscreen, he was more dark and brooding than most incarnations of the character, but now that we’ll be seeing a younger version of him, maybe we’ll get to see more of the happy-go-lucky side to Kurt Wagner this time around.

What do you think of the first look at Nightcrawler in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’? How do you think Kodi Smit-McPhee will do in the role? Let us know in the comments below.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Oscar Isaac opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
