The upcoming video game adapted film ‘Dead Rising: Watchtower’ now has a trailer out just in time for its release on March 27th.

Here is a brief summary of the movie’s plot:

“Dead Rising: Watchtower takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.”

The movie stars Jesse Metcalfe (‘Desperate Housewives,’ ‘John Tucker Must Die,’ ‘Dallas’) Meghan Ory (‘Intelligence,’ ‘Once Upon a Time’), Virginia Madsen (‘Sideways’), Dennis Haysbert (’24’), Keegan Connor Tracy (‘Once Upon a Time’) as well as Rob Riggle (‘The Daily Show’ and ’21 Jump Street’), and directed by Zach Lipovsky.

There are many key similarities between the movie and the Capcom video game franchise its based on. Like Frank West in the first ‘Dead Rising,’ Jesse Metclalfe plays a photojournalist who, while reporting on a zombie outbreak, ends up trapped in the very heart of the infection instead and must fight his way out. The trailer also suggests that even though the news crew has been left within the zombie quarantine they have not stopped recording, and now their footage is being used for the entertainment and horror of the people outside quarantine, which alludes itself to the plot of ‘Dead Rising 2.’

Further, one of ‘Dead Rising’s’ most memorable game play mechanics was how every item that Frank West could theoretically pick up could not only be used offensively, but could also be crafted with other items to create a wide variety of hybrid weapons. The main characters of the film do the same, creating weapons out of combined mundane objects. And like the video game, these weapons will defend the characters from zombies and crazed humans alike.

‘Watchtower’ will be available on March 27 via streaming on Crackle. The film is not yet rated.
