It appears that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of ‘Mortal Kombat X’ have been delayed until June 30.

News of the delay first began to spring up when a rumor on NeoGAF earlier this month made claim that the previous console versions of ‘Mortal Kombat X’ would be delayed to June. But when an Amazon listing for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game recently started showing the its release date in June, people began to speculate that the delay was in-fact true.

However, Warner Bros. Interactive finally confirmed the delay on the PS3 and Xbox 360 version in the statement below. Not much explanation towards the reason why was provided.

“Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today confirmed that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Mortal Kombat X being developed by High Voltage Software will release this summer,” the publisher said. “The Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC versions will be available April 14.”

As made clear by the statement, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ for the PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC are still scheduled to release on April 14. However, previous generation console users will undoubtedly have to wait until June 30 in order to get their hands on the upcoming fighting game.

‘Mortal Kombat X’  is the newest entry in the long running fighting game franchise. In terms of story, it takes place first at the end of 2011’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ and then transitions 25 years into the future. Despite its new time period, the title will still feature classic series characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Quan-Chi, Kano, Kitana, Kung Lao and even Reptile.

Developing ‘Mortal Kombat X’ is NetherRealm Studios, a development team lead by none other than ‘Mortal Kombat’ series veteran Ed Boon. Development duties on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are being handled by High Voltage Software.

‘Mortal Kombat X’ is scheduled to release on April 14 for PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are due out June 30.
