Konami has announced that players who have invested time in ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ will be able to transfer their save game data to the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.’

Regarding the specifics, save data can be transferred between the two games only if they are both within the same console family. For example, anyone who has save data for ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ on a Sony console can transfer their progress only if their copy of the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ is also on a Sony console. Unfortunately, there can be no mixing between platform families.

However, anyone who owns either the PS4, Xbox One or Windows PC version of ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ are restricted to transferring their save data to their respective platform versions. For instance, players who have save data for the Xbox One version of ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ can only transfer it to the Xbox One version of ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’, and not to the Xbox 360 version.

Released in March 2014 for consoles, ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ is a standalone game that acts as the prologue to the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’. With that title coming out in September, it looks like players will be able to transfer their save data to benefit their progress somehow. As far as how players will benefit and what gets carried over exactly is still unclear.

Regardless, below you can find a chart that clarifying how the save data transfers between the two games will work.

‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ is scheduled to release on September 1 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ is currently available now for those same platforms.
