Bethesda Softworks has just announced a prequel to last year’s ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ called ‘Wolfenstein: The Old Blood’

Sweden-based development studio MachineGames, who worked on ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order,’ will once again be taking on development duties for the prequel. It is scheduled to release as a standalone downloadable title on May 5 for $20 via digital retail outlets only.

In terms of how it’s divvied up, ‘Wolfenstein: The Old Blood’ is a two-part story set in 1946 when the Nazis are on the verge of winning World War II. The prequel has players taking on the role of BJ Blazkowicz once again as he sets out on a journey in Bavaria.

Part one of ‘Wolfenstein: Old Blood’ is entitled “Rudi Jager and the Den of Wolves.” In it, BJ faces off against a psychotic prison warden as he tries to break into Castle Wolfenstein in order to steal secret coordinates to General Deathhead’s compound.

Part two, entitled “The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs,” has BJ returning to the city of Wulfburg where a Nazi archeologist is unearthing ancient artifacts that hold mysterious dark powers.

According to ‘Wolfenstein: Old Blood’ producer Jerk Gustafsson, ‘Wolfenstein: The Old Blood’ will feature the same action-packed first person shooter gameplay that fans have come to expect, as well as a variety of new weapons to use:

“Diving back into the world of Wolfenstein has really been fun for us,” Gustafsson said. “We’ve enjoyed exploring the events leading up to The New Order. We think fans will really enjoy the story, all the action and, of course, jumping back into the combat with new weapons.”

More gameplay for ‘Wolfenstein: The Old Blood’ is scheduled to be showcased during PAX East on both Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. Feel free to take a look at the debut trailer below!

‘Wolfenstein: Old Blood’ will release for Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC on May 5.
