After officially announcing the roster back in December, ‘Suicide Squad’ looked like it would be no joke. Director David Ayers had assembled a venerable collection of Hollywood superstars for Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ supervillain team up film including Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto. Although Hardy has since dropped out, ‘Robocop’ star Joel Kinnaman has recently been announced as his replacement to play team leader Rick Flag. Now, with the main players in place, who else will round out the cast? A new name has been confirmed, but little else.
According to The Wrap, Jay Hernandez is currently in negotiations to appear in ‘Suicide Squad’. The actor is known for his role in the ‘Friday Night Lights’ film, but his credits also include ‘Crazy/Beautiful’, ‘Hostel’, ‘Joy Ride’, and Fox’s ‘Gang Related’. With villains like Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Enchantress, and the Joker already in play, it’s unknown whether Hernandez will play a familiar rogue from the DC Universe. However, the report says that he could be “an inmate on the same cell block as The Joker, though there are several other open roles at this time”. If he does end up as a fellow inmate with the Clown Prince of Crime, Hernandez would probably be someone fairly dangerous considering that Mister J wouldn’t likely be mixing with the general population. While we don’t know for certain, Latino-Review’s Umberto Gonzalez did drop this hot rumor via his Instagram account that Hernandez is in talks to play El Diablo:
Along with Hernandez, it’s said that Viola Davis and Jesse Eisenberg are also in negotiations to take part in the upcoming comic book movie. Rumors have stated that Davis is in line to take the role of boss lady Amanda Waller, whereas the ‘Social Network’ star is meant to reprise his role as Lex Luthor from ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
