Thanks to the recently leaked emails from Sony Pictures, the world is finding out a wealth of insider information that the general public was not meant to know just yet or even at all. Details about a potential ‘Jump Street’/’Men In Black’ crossover, a discussion of Spider-Man’s involvement in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, and some big name actors joining the ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel are just a few tidbits to emerge from the leak, but now it looks like another studio is a casualty of the privacy breach as some confidential happenings at Marvel Studios may have hit the web.

Comic Book Movie reports that Brazilian site overtice.com.br has uncovered Sony emails that feature a discussion between Sony Entertainment’s Amy Pascal and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The correspondence mentioned the failed talks to bring Peter Parker to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that their latest project won’t prevent them from working on ‘The Gray Man’ for Sony. What’s the new thing on their plate? That would be two-part epic known as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, which means that Joss Whedon would be relinquishing the director’s chair of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ franchise after ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’.

Additionally, the emails find the Russos offering their services to produce the upcoming Spider-Man movies for Sony supporting their new filmmaking collective known as Bullitt. This would mean that current producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad would be replaced, but Joe Russo mentions that it’s a “conversation worth having.” No word on what the Sony exec said to that though since the company’s computer system was shutdown a week after the Russo email was sent.

As a fan of Whedon, I’d be disappointed to see him leave the MCU. I mean, he was the one who crafted the assembly that no one thought could ever happen on the big screen. Yet here we are two years later with the biggest Marvel characters connected by an insanely awesome shared universe. However, if ‘Civil War’ is as game changing as ‘The Winter Soldier’ was, then it makes sense that the Russos take over the direction of the third and fourth Avengers films. ‘Infinity War’ is going to be a big deal no matter what, so if the major routes are charted in their film, then the Russos should be the ones to steer the main ship of the fleet.

Plus, if the Russos did actually land the producing gig on the future Spider-Man movies, then maybe they’d have a better chance at bringing the web-slinger into the MCU, which is something that all True Believers have been hoping and praying for for years.

Of course, we have quite some time until an official announcement is made, so anything can happen between now and then. For all we know, Joss Whedon could stay on as the writer while the Russos direct. Or all three could co-direct since these two movies are just that big. So in the mean time, share your thoughts and theories about this news in the comments below.

‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’ premieres on May 4, 2018, while ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2’ hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
