Capcom has announced the release date for the upcoming HD remaster of the Nintendo Gamecube remake of the classic ‘Resident Evil’.

The HD version of the ‘Resident Evil’ remake set to release on January 20, 2015. Previously, it had only been known that the game would release sometime in 2015.

Along with the release date, Capcom also announced that the remake will be priced at $19.99 for release across Ps4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. Unfortunately for purist collectors over here in North America, the ‘Resident Evil’ remake will be available only as digital-only downloadable title.

The ‘Resident Evil’ remake will be getting a variety of the HD remaster treatments. For starters, the game’s visuals have been upped to a 1080p native resolution. Character models and backgrounds have been improved, and there is now a “scrolling” camera that moves along with player movements in order to integrate the original game’s 4×3 presentation into a 16×9 view. Sound of the game has been remastered to 5.1 surround and additional options have been added into the game as well, such as the ability to adjust the widescreen ratio, and even the option to change the game’s tank controls into analog controls.

Originally released for the Nintendo Gamecube on March 22, 2002, the ‘Resident Evil’ remake is a critically acclaimed survival horror game that is often regarded as a fan-favorite among the ‘Resident Evil’ community. Due to its massive popularity on both fronts, it’s no surprise to see that Capcom keen on bringing it into the fray of HD remastered versions of classic titles from the past.

The original ‘Resident Evil’ takes place in 1996 and tells the story of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team, an elite unit of the Raccoon City Police department. Their task is simple: track down the whereabouts of the missing Bravo team who were originally sent to investigate grisly murders reported in the city’s outer forest region. However, what Alpha team finds in their search leads them down a path of endless horrors into an ominous mansion filled with undead zombies and deadly genetic experiments. Players take control of Alpha team members Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, as they struggle to uncover the truth and make it out alive.

The HD remastered version of the ‘Resident Evil’ remake will release on January 20, 2015 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
