While we’ve had plenty of rumors about who the cast would include in David Ayers take on DC’s ‘Suicide Squad‘ we now have the official announcement as to who is playing whom in the movie!
As previously reported, Will Smith and Tom Hardy were on the studio’s short list to star in the film and Margot Robbie had already officially signed on. Now Jared Leto no longer has to keep his mouth shut about his role in the film. Also announced as part of the Suicide Squad team are Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne.
Here’s who each of these actors will be playing:
Smith will play Deadshot, one of Batman’s known villains but has more recently been played by Michael Rowe on the CW series ‘Arrow.’ As for Hardy, he’ll be the leader of the Suicide Squad Rick Flagg. Courtney has been tapped to play Boomerang (it was originally rumored that he would play Deadshot) and Delevingne will be playing the Enchantress. We already knew that Robbie already signed on the role as Harley Quinn and in no short surprise, Leto will be playing The Joker.
Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, said in a press release:
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this on. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Pre-production for the film will begin as early as this upcoming February in Toronto’s Pinewood Studios with principal photography set to run from mid-April through September of 2015. We’re roughly five and a half months from the project to begin filming!
With DC’s shared universe still being shrouded in mystery it will be interesting to see how all these villainous characters come to play with our heroes before coming together for this film. It’s all in the hands of Ayer as he is not only helming the ‘Suicide Squad’ film but also writing the screenplay.
