Tom Hardy first gained real prominence in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception‘ and apparently impressed the director so much that he cast in him a huge role as Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’  Since then, his star has steadily risen and comic book movie fans seem especially impressed with his depictions.  He was recently rumored to be on Marvel’s wish list to play Doctor Strange and it’s rumored DC wants him him for an undisclosed character in their ‘Suicide Squad’ movie.

Now, it sounds like he actually may go back to the dark side as the title villain in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’  These are ALL just rumors that this point and we don’t even know if Hardy even wants to do another super villain role.  His turn as Bane was really iconic.  Apocalypse would cast him as another powerful, muscular monster.

In the comics, Apocalypse is En Sabah Nur, an immortal mutant, who is thought to be the first of their kind.  He made his first appearance in the very first ‘X-Factor’ #5, back in the 80s and was responsible for turning Angel into Archangel. Fittingly, ‘X-Factor’ focused on the original comic book X-Men and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will focus only on the ‘First Class’ team.  Unfortunately, both generations of X-Men have been scrambled in the movie continuity.

The character was teased in the closing credits of ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’.

Do you think the hulking Tom Hardy would make a good match for the role of the first mutant?  Or do you think that there’s someone else out  there that would be a better fit?
