While there is a rumor floating around that Emperor Palatine will be involved in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ there really has been no official word that he actually is or will be in future installments. He”s had such a major impact on the films of the past (and could be thought as the reason on why we had a ‘Star Wars’ in the first place) that it isn’t hard to assume he’ll be a part of the storylines in the next trilogy. While we’ve known him as Senator Palpatine, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Sidious, and more, what would you call the man if you were hanging out with him over a cup of coffee? In the upcoming in-continuity novel that is being released, we finally find that out.

I never really thought about it before, but the central villain from the first six ‘Star Wars‘ films has never had his first name announced. Well, after 34 years of being one of the biggest bad guys in science fiction history, we find out the Emperor’s name in the novel ‘Tarkin’ written by James Luceno.

Palpatine’s first name is Sheev.

While the book isn’t out until November, the name was officially released at New York’s Comic-Con panel and, of course soon after, the Internet at large became aware of it.

Yes, you read that right, Sheev. Sheev Palpatine. I’m not sure if I should be cringing in fear or cringing trying not to giggle at the name. Maybe that is why he actually ended up being so evil?

What are your thoughts on finding out about the name of the most infamous villain in ‘Star Wars’ history? Do you think he may somehow make an appearance in the films going forward?

‘Tarkin’ Synopsis:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . . .

Bestselling Star Wars veteran James Luceno gives Grand Moff Tarkin the Star Wars: Darth Plagueis treatment, bringing a legendary character from A New Hope to full, fascinating life.

He’s the scion of an honorable and revered family. A dedicated soldier and distinguished legislator. Loyal proponent of the Republic and trusted ally of the Jedi Order. Groomed by the ruthless politician and Sith Lord who would be Emperor, Governor Wilhuff Tarkin rises through the Imperial ranks, enforcing his authority ever more mercilessly . . . and zealously pursuing his destiny as the architect of absolute dominion.

Rule through the fear of force rather than force itself, he advises his Emperor. Under Tarkin’s guidance, an ultimate weapon of unparalleled destruction moves ever closer to becoming a terrifying reality. When the so-called Death Star is completed, Tarkin is confident that the galaxy’s lingering pockets of Separatist rebellion will be brought to heel—by intimidation . . . or annihilation.

Until then, however, insurgency remains a genuine threat. Escalating guerrilla attacks by resistance forces and newfound evidence of a growing Separatist conspiracy are an immediate danger the Empire must meet with swift and brutal action. And to bring down a band of elusive freedom fighters, the Emperor turns to his most formidable agents: Darth Vader, the fearsome new Sith enforcer as remorseless as he is mysterious; and Tarkin—whose tactical cunning and cold-blooded efficiency will pave the way for the Empire’s supremacy . . . and its enemies’ extinction.

‘Tarkin’ will be released on November 4th, 2014
