NBC’s ‘Hannibal‘ is returning soon and we are happy to hear that Gillian Anderson (‘The X-Files’,’The Curse of The Buxom Strumpet’) is being promoted to a series regular for the third season. That’s right! Fans of Hannibal’s very own personal psychiatrist, Bedelia du Maurier, will be back and for more. We’ve already had hints that she knows a little more about what Hannibal is actually up to and now we’re going to see exactly how much she does know!

At the close of the second season she and Hannibal had evaded capture by flying out of the country and now we’ll see them both as they are on the run in Italy. At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Fuller said that “We jump into the middle of a story with Hannibal Lecter and Bedelia and their new lives. It’s almost ‘The Talented Mr. Lecter’ with them developing new personas and living under aliases and sneaking around. It’s essentially a whole new show.” While we’ve already known she was going to be showing up this season now we have some confirmation that she’ll be an ongoing character who doesn’t die in the first couple of episodes and will be continuing to journey with Hannibal as he jaunts around key locations in Europe.

While we know Hannibal had a sister at one time it almost makes me wonder if they are going to change a bit of his history and turn Bedelia du Maurier into actually being his sister. Another thought is that some of the events that played out in ‘Hannibal Rising’ which are to be featured this coming season might include Bedelia du Maurier in place of his sister. There is always the chance that the events will occur in flashback or stories told by Lecter but I feel that both of those routes seem wrong with how they’ve been going forward so far.
