With ‘Terminator: Genisys‘ bringing us a new refresh of the franchise on July 1st, 2015, it was only a matter of time before Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions would announce when we would see the two follow up sequels. That day is today! While exact titles for the two films have yet to be released, we do know when we’ll be able to see them. Past release dates though they haven’t given us any further details on what we might expect from the films, reoccurring cast members, etc.

However, they have an interesting set of an early numbering system that does suggest more of a reboot theme than a fresh take on things such as what ‘Star Trek’ had done.

Terminator Release Schedule

  • Terminator: Genisys – July 1, 2015
  • Terminator 2 – May 19, 2017
  • Terminator 3 – June 29, 2018

Interesting number scheme as technically the new films are restarting the franchise but as a not quite reboot these should be films 6 and 7. Or, 5 and 6 if you were not to include ‘Terminator: Salvation.’ I suppose this rehash of the franchise really will be giving us a fresh start after all. As long as the movie is good it’ll be a huge shame that there will be a two year wait between Genisys and the second installment of the new trilogy. Since the last two films are being shot back to back , that explains how we’ll be seeing them a year apart. I really hope they don’t try to write the original films out of canon. Well, the first two at the very least.

While a new take on the ‘Terminator’ role could be a risk I have a lot of faith in Alan Taylor after his stunning work on ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and am really eager to see what he’ll be bringing to the table.
