With ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ doing great at the box office, we’re all curious as to what the sequel will bring and Kevin Feige weighs in on a few areas of it. His take on it is that there are certain questions that may need to be explored.
While Yondu played a substitute role, a big mystery that came up is who exactly is Peter Quill’s father? According to Feige:
“I think it’s pretty important, I think there’s a reason we seeded it at the very end of the film like that. I think that would certainly be part of a next Guardians adventure. Certainly, that would be part of it.”
We already know that is he only half human from the film so my guess is they will be putting him in the role of a certain Prince that he unofficially is in the comics.
When might we be seeing his father show up? Well we “would wait for the next Guardians adventure. I think that’s pretty important for James [Gunn] and would be appropriate in a [Guardians movie]. I don’t think you’d spoil that in Cap 3.” Also if they follow who it is in the comics, it would be hard to introduce him in a non-cosmic scenario.
Another big question is will Nebula return? As one of the two adopted daughters of Thanos in the film, I highly suspect that she will as Feige chimes in:
“I would say any character that doesn’t overtly perish is certainly fair game to come back. If people know the comic lore, Nebula has a lot of varying different roles to play over the course of a lot of different titles in the comics. We have somebody like Karen, and you have a look that is so weird and so great. I think that’s something we’d all like to see again.”
Honestly with her having major roles in many of the Thanos storylines, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see her on screen once again. That one almost felt like a no brainer.
Onto Thanos and Feige was asked if we have to see exactly how powerful he currently is on screen before setting up the fights of ‘Avengers 3’ (or whenever they crossed over next). According to Feige:
“That is an excellent point to make. I don’t know. The truth is, anything I say would be a spoiler, frankly, on that. I don’t think it’s required. I think you could go right into a Thanos-centered movie and tell the audience anything you need to know. But the fun of our universe is that the characters can pop up in multiple franchises, so… perhaps. It is a good question.”
They’ve already shown everyone clearly afraid of him and Ronan has said Thanos was the most powerful person in the Galaxy prior to his own wielding of an Infinity Stone. Even that didn’t seem to phase Thanos much. Odds are likely he could even already have one of his own!
We’ve already heard what the Guardians themselves think about an Avengers team up but what does Feige think? Well it isn’t too hard for him to imagine as The Avengers have already seen aliens.
“You know, the fun about The Avengers, as we we’re gearing up to that, was ‘how would Tony Stark deal with goody two-shoes Steve Rogers in World War II?’ What would Tony Stark think of a Norse god who wields a hammer? The brilliance of Joss [Whedon] was having fun with that. So who knows if and when these guys would ever connect, but it is fun thinking about, how would Steve Rogers react to Rocket? Or, you’re right, Drax couldn’t even have a conversation with Tony Stark! [Laughs] I have a theory that the more time Drax spends with Peter Quill, the more he’s going to start to learn, perhaps, that people aren’t always as literal as his species would assume.”
I think they’ll get along just fine and if anything, I’m most looking forward to seeing Tony Stark and Peter Quill together. The on screen interaction between the two such huge personalities would be priceless.
