Robert Downey Jr. has enjoyed quite a second act as Tony Stark, the cornerstone of Marvel’s blockbuster cinematic universe.  However, the actor was only contracted to three solo movies, now completed with the third film grossing over a billion dollars worldwide.  He’s also locked into three ‘Avengers’ movies, with the second, subtitled ‘The Age of Ultron‘ coming next year.  But is it possible that Downey Jr. could return for additional Marvel movies?

“Why give up the belt?” the actor responded.  “It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree.  When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement.”  The actor then coyly added, “Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it?  This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.”

The actor wrapped 2013 as the highest paid actor in Hollywood, making over $75 million from the back-end of ‘Iron Man 3’ and should be looking at a similar windfall for ‘Avengers: The Age Of Ultron’.  But is he simply looking to expand his horizons and go beyond playing the Avengers’ tech-expert and financier?

He states, “Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?” he quipped before adding, “Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out.”  He then added in a very Magic Eight Ball way, “The future is, as usual, uncertain.”  In other words, cha-ching.

So what do you think?  Do you want to see more of Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in additional ‘Iron Man’ solo movies?  Would you be open to another actor stepping into the metallic boots of Iron Man?
