The trailer for the new Syfy series ’12 Monkeys‘ is one that I have been long waiting to see released ever since I heard the show was green lit, and now its finally here! This is based off of a movie that I had really enjoyed and I’ve been wanting to see what Syfy’s take in turning it into an ongoing series was going to be. So far? It looks a lot darker and right off the bat hints that with time travel and paradoxes, our main character might never know if he has actually saved the future.
In the trailer below you can tell we’re not being given the comic relief of a Brad Pitt styled character. At the very least, he isn’t teased here. While the man may exist in the series, he isn’t going to be giving us quite the levity that was found in the 1995 Terry Gilliam film. To be honest, that’s OK!
This is a film about a man being sent back in time in order to prevent a post apocalyptic Earth caused by a man made plague from happening. I think the tone they are showing us below is exactly the kind of feeling I wanted to see for a take on the film. As the show is set to be a “complete re-imagining” of what came before, I think a different feel can only help that shift of perspective along.

As always with a show on Syfy we won’t be able to truly judge the acting, pacing, and style until the actul first episode is aired and we have a chance to see it ourselves. That being said this and ‘Ascension are the two series that I am currently most looking forward to.
