Hot off the presses after the recent announcement that a new television series based off of ‘The Omen is being made for Lifetime, it would appear that the movie is being rebooted again as well. Yes, I did say again as they had a reboot that was done back in 2006. As I loved the original and enjoyed the sequel, I’m really not sure why it’s necessary to reboot this one again. Oh right, money and franchise potential.

‘The Omen’ tells the tale of young Damien Thorn who is the adopted son of a very politically connected and wealthy couple. As he grows up we see him come into his own as a very smart, powerful, and creepy little kid. Of course, he owes all of these traits to his father. His actual father, that is, because for those who don’t know about the movies we learn from nearly the outset that the young Damien Thorn is in all actuality the Antichrist.

It is a great piece of horror and with the television series having ‘The Walking Dead’ showrunner Glen Mazzara in charge of it, who will be in charge of the new movie release you may be wondering?

It looks as if Twentieth Century Fox is going to be working with Platinum Dunes for their reboot of the series. (Yes, the same Platinum Dunes that belongs to Michael Bay.) At this time no director has been announced but with a television series to compete with (or capitalize off of) I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the near future.

What is surprising is that while the last one was able to pull in $120 million on a $25 million budget, things seemed to end there. I have a feeling this time around we’re going to be seeing an attempt at a franchise as the original was already able to pull off multiple sequels to varying degrees of success.
