With the summer heat beating down on us, director Danny Cannon wants to cool things off by introducing Mr. Freeze into his upcoming series ‘Gotham‘. You would think that with the show already giving us the origin story not only of Jim Gordon but many of Batman’s villains such as Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, and Fish Mooney, there would be no room for more. Apparently there is!

Cannon’s exact quote on the character?

“I have a big pitch with Bruno about the Mr. Freeze character, whose origins are uncertain. If I can win Geoff Johns over and if I can win Bruno over, then I look forward to the moment where that character can be realized.”

Of course introducing Dr. Victor Fries to the audience doesn’t have to mean they introduce his villainous character right off the bat either. He could potentially be introduced as a man at the cutting edge of science whose wife is just starting to get sick. These are origin stories after all.

Even with all of these characters to play with though, we won’t be seeing them all right off the bat according to Cannon. “The beauty of this, both myself and [showrunner] Bruno [Heller] did not sign on until we heard both network and studio assure us that we would not be forced into realizing this so quickly,” said Cannon. “We want a slow-burn.”

I’m not sure how slow of a burn it can be at this point with quite a few of Batman’s rogue gallery already scheduled to pop up in the first season to some extent or another. If ‘Spider-Man 3’ taught us anything, it’s that there can be too much of a, ahem, good, ahem, thing. Still, I can’t help but be interested to check out the full look of the show when it debuts. Speaking of interested in the look of the show, we also have the latest character posters to share with you!

Are you excited to see Mr. Freeze potentially introduced on the show? Do you think there is a better one of the criminals that will eventually go up against The Bat that you would prefer they were looking into? Are they pushing their limits on how quickly so many of these villains are popping up? Which of the latest posters was your favorite? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker. GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

‘Gotham’ will air Monday nights at 8 p.m. on the FOX network.
