If you Shazamed the closing credits of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ you unlocked a sequence hinting at the members of the ‘Sinister Six‘ who will star in their own film after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’.

As you can see, this image mirrors the lion’s face design on Kraven’s vest.  In the comics, Kraven is the world’s greatest big game hunter who decides to hunt Spider-Man, who he considers the world’s most desirable game.  Unfortunately, the concept of a big game hunter is a dated concept and creators have struggled to reinvent him over the years.  In the Ultimate Universe, he was a reality show host who was humiliated by Spider-Man and had himself genetically modified to gain revenge.

The remainder of the movie Sinister Six will be Green Goblin (whose fate was ambiguous at the end of ‘S-M2’), Doctor Octopus, The Vulture (both of whom were teased in the film), The Rhino and either The Chameleon or Mysterio (I’ve heard both and since these were just teasers, it’s not clear).

Director Marc Webb was asked which of Spidey’s villains he’d like to utilize and he responded fairly clearly, “Kraven. Kraven. I like the idea of Kraven. The Vulture. Ock. I always thought the idea of Mysterio was interesting. Maybe Scorpion. But really, Kraven I think is kind of interesting.”  Of these, The Scorpion was not even remotely teased so he may be a stretch, but may pop up in the future.

Now the villains utilized so far in this franchise have deviated from the comic versions, for the most part for the better (and more modern).  Any version of Kraven, Ock, The Vulture and Mysterio will probably only be “inspired” by the comic book characters.

As Webb is not signed on to direct any other Spidey films beyond ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’, does that mean he’ll get to utilize his dream villain?

If that’s the case, how should they handle Kraven the Hunter in the movie?  How can they modernize this concept for the 21st century movie audience?
