Here’s the rundown for the week of May 6th, 2014!

Jabba and Yoda Are Back In Black

While the crew here at ScienceFiction.com hope you celebrated Star Wars Day in style this past weekend (May the Fourth be with you!), Hasbro took things one step further with a look at two all new figures in their highly acclaimed ‘Star Wars’ Black Series 6” figure line! While the first images of their all new Jabba the Hutt figure hit around Toyfair back in February, this is the first detailed look at the figure as well as the first look at the all new SDCC Exclusive Salacious Crumb figure accessory! While Jabba himself is expected to be a wide release figure at a later point in the year (much like last year’s Boba Fett), Salacious Crumb will only be available to those who purchase the figure at San Diego Comic Con this July!

On top of this much better look at Jabba, we got our first look at an all new Yoda figure! This version of Yoda appears to look older, and appears to be based primarily on his appearance in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, rather than his look in the prequel trilogy. Oddly enough, he still comes with a light saber accessory, which he only ever used during the prequels. Still, this figure looks pretty fantastic and will make an excellent addition to this growing toyline.

The full posting from the newsletter is below:

“You may recognize this mutant by his stylish sweater, pressed chinos, and handsome mustache… that’s right, it’s BAXTER FLY! TMNT’s newest mutant is debuting in action figure form this Fall!

FIRST LOOK: The BaxterFly action figure by Playmates Toys is coming this fall!”

Matty Collector SDCC Reveals

While we’ve known for some time that we’ll be getting Doomsday ‘Bound’ for our (quite possibly and probably last ever) DC Universe Classics SDCC Exclusive (as mentioned here just last week!), Mattel and Matty Collector have given fans a fresh new look at a few of their upcoming San Diego Comic Con exclusives in this fresh posting from MattyCollector.com:

“Oh San Diego Comic-Con, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways…

First, we start by revealing one MOTUC figure and one DCU figure right here, right now! Without further ado, meet…

Masters of the Universe® Classics Hordak® with Imp ($30)
Celebrate the 30th anniversary of She-Ra® and Princess of Power® with the first-ever Filmation-style Hordak® figure! Inspired by his ‘80s animated appearance, complete with blue skin and interchangeable cannon/”human” arms, this figure includes a snap-on claw hand for his cannon arm and a Horde magic staff. Joining Hordak® is his sarcastic sidekick from the series, Imp, in his first appearance as a Classics figure.

Added Bonus Only at SDCC! When you purchase this Hordak® figure at the show or pre-order the figure to be picked up at the show, you also get a bonus “Imp as a Treasure Chest” figure! Packed in a separate poly bag (not on the blister card with Hordak® and Imp above), this special item is available only at SDCC and will not be included with the Hordak® with Imp figure sold at MattyCollector.com after the show. First come, first served. (Can’t see him? That scamp! He’s around here somewhere…)

This item will be available for pre-order at MattyCollector.com on June 24, 2014, to be picked up at San Diego Comic-Con and sold at the show. It will also be available at MattyCollector.com on August 5, 2014, without the bonus “Imp as a Treasure Chest” figure.

DCU Classics Doomsday ($35)

One of the most demanded figures in the DCU Classics Signature Series finally arrives! This massive maniac had the ultimate face-off with Superman™ in the best-selling issue #75, and now, in his first-ever appearance as “prison suit” Doomsday, he joins our DC Universe Classics line. Standing at over 9” tall with 16 points of articulation (16!), the Kryptonian killer arrives in his prisoner suit. (How in the world did he fit all of his spikes and bones inside that suit? Some mysteries may never be solved.) Doomsday comes in a custom window box that pays homage to the cover of DC Comics Superman: The Man of Steel #18 (November, 1992), the issue where he made his first full appearance.

This product will be available for pre-order at MattyCollector.com on June 24, 2014, to be picked up at San Diego Comic-Con. It will also be available for purchase at the show, then at MattyCollector.com on August 5, 2014. See Them at Comic Bug’s Free Comic Book Day Event 5/3…

On Tuesday, May 6th, be right here when we divulge one more SDCC item, then on Tuesday, May 13th, we’ll have five more SDCC items! Not enough, you say? We usually save a reveal or two for when it gets closer to SDCC, and this year is no different. We’ve got seriously cool stuff planned and we don’t want you to miss any of it so sign up for email or join us on Facebook, Twitter and in our Fan Forums.”

New Adventures Skeletor Terrorizing Eternia

Keeping things rolling along, Mattel also released additional press images of the all new ‘New Adventures of He-Man’ Skeletor figure that is set to release later this year as a part of their Masters of the Universe Classics subscription toyline. While this figure has been long demanded by fans, many seem to be voicing their displeasure with the overly bulky look of the figures armor. Still, many people are just pleased to finally be getting this updated version of the character! You can find a larger gallery of images on the Matty Collector Facebook page.

Funko Helps You Parent Your Own Dragons

Become the Mother (or Father, we aren’t here to judge) of Dragon’s yourself with this all new ‘Game of Thrones‘ release fro Funko! Without much real notice given as to this release, Funko and HBO have stealthily released this awesome Funko POP! three-pack of Daenerys Stormborn’s Dragons! While all three are available individually, they are not too common at all, making this set a purchase that is easy to decide on. This triple-pack is available now exclusively on HBO’s website for the low price of $30.

May The Funko Be With You

With Star Wars Day just behind us, it’s easy to forget just how much awesome ‘Star Wars‘ product we still have coming our way! This past week our friends at Funko announced the all new sixth wave of ‘Star Wars’ themed Funko POP! Vinyl figures! Also included in this new wave are Luke Skywalker in Hoth gear, Bossk, The Emperor, Hammerhead, and a Scout Trooper! These are expected to hit shelves before the year is out.

“We’re Gonna Build a Bigger Boat!”

Brought to my attention by the crew at Action Figure Insider, I felt morally obligated to bring this next item to your attention. We’ve talked about the amazing ideas that have popped up over on LEGO’s Cuusoo site before (like the sweet Doctor Who sets we might be getting!), this one really takes the cake! For those of you who don’t know what Cuusoo is, it’s a extraordinary website run by LEGO where fans can submit their own LEGO set ideas for consideration to be voted on and potentially made as widely released mass marketed sets! Anyway, here we have one hell of a proposed set. I guess you could say this one really ‘jumps the shark’.

This new proposed set is based on Steven Spielberg’s classic thriller ‘JAWS’. Yes, ‘JAWS’. And it looks amazing. The full information regarding the set is posted below, and I highly recommend you go up vote this project so we can hopefully see it get produced!

“In celebration of one of my all time favorite films I bring you this action packed Lego set based on the Steven Spielberg classic ‘JAWS’. Recreate some of the most iconic scenes from the movie. For years I have had a deep fear of, and interest in, sharks. I would love a percentage of any profits to go to Shark Savers to conserve this amazing animal.
Since the book & films release understanding the importance of marine conservation has become widely publicized and supported. However, the oceans are still losing vital species and habitats at an alarming rate. We have the power to change this.

Click here for more info on Shark Savers

With your vote, my aim is to bring much needed awareness to the ever concerning plight of our marine environment and offer an exciting fan collectable. Bath time will never be the same again!!!”

That’ll about do it for this week’s Toy News Tuesday! I hope you’ve seen some cool new stuff you enjoyed, and hopefully got some ideas as to what kind of stuff you can look forward to placing on your shelves later this year! Until next week, happy toy hunting!
