‘Halo’ fans have been longing for a series or film for quite some time now. When I heard about the possibility of a Peter Jackson directed feature I was excited, but that fell flat. Now Steven Spielberg is producing his own ‘Halo’ series which will be produced for Microsoft’s Xbox One next-gen console. Neill Blomkamp (Elysium) may or may not be directing.

And now, according to Variety, Showtime is in talks to air Spielberg’s “live-action drama series” based on the game franchise. Xbox Entertainment Studios will partner with the premium network and the series will air on both the premium channel as well as on Xbox Live.

Spielberg’s Amblin TV with an undisclosed pair of showrunners will be working from “an expansive bible” that will air on Showtime first, then on Xbox One. The series has been in development at Amblin for more than a year and Microsoft is evidently working to include an“enhanced interactivity” for the platform. This to me suggests some kind of multi-platform intermediary between the series and any upcoming installments of the actual game itself. It would take a great deal of planning in order to do this, but the companies involved appear to have the ability to do so.

Details are still in the negotiations phase but we expect a finalized project soon. We will keep you up to date as the details come in, so check back with us daily for the newest information.
