Looks like a certain feline, female cat burglar, squeezed into a skin-tight black leather catsuit, who walks the line between hero and criminal and who shares an adversarial/romantic relationship with her mask wearing, rooftop-swinging heroic opponent is headed to the big screen.  (Er… no, the other one.)  Yep, the other cat woman, Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat will be prowling her way into Sony’s Spidey cinematic universe.  It had already been announced that British actress Felicity Jones would be playing her alter ego in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ so most fans simply assumed this was a gateway for her sticky-fingered plunderer guise to factor in at some point.  But she isn’t the only comic book villain (sort of) that fans should be on the lookout for.

B.J. Novak will appear in ‘ASM 2’ as Alistair Smythe.  In the comics, Alistair is the son of Spencer Smythe the inventor commissioned by J. Jonah Jameson to create the Spider-Slayers, robotic troops meant to capture Spider-Man, whom Jameson considered a menace to the public.  Over the years, the Spider-Slayers have returned in various robotic forms, eventually mutating into huge robotic spiders.

Alistair then mutated into a humanoid Spider-Slayer and set out to take out the Wall Crawler himself.  Once again, with Smythe making an appearance, the natural conclusion is that some form of Spider-Slayer will pop up in one of Sony’s upcoming movies.

Or is this wishful thinking?  Should fans read into these castings with an eye toward the future?  Producer Avi Arad responds, “Definitely!  Everything you see that makes you think about the comics, I think you should read into it”.

Fellow producer Matt Tolmach further added “There are no accidents”.

But Arad warns, “when they’ll be implemented, that’s food for thought”.

Will one or both be part of the ‘Sinister Six’, since the producers have already stated that they are shaking up the lineup somewhat from the classic comic lineup?  How would you like to see these characters handled on the big screen?
