Usually when a new scientific development in unveiled, it has its champions and its detractors. Things are no different in the world of ‘Transcendence’, where a brilliant scientist in the field of artificial intelligence creates the technology to essentially download yourself into your computer. While many are praising his revolutionary work, others are strongly against it and are not shy about expressing their feelings. And in the latest bit of viral marketing for Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, we get to meet the biggest opponents of Dr. Will Caster’s breakthroughs.

In this new film from the former cinematographer of Christopher Nolan, R.I.F.T. is an anti-tech group working to shut down the work of Johnny Depp’s character. The group is lead by Kate Mara’s character and the acronym stands for Revolutionary Independence From Technology, but to get a better idea of what their agenda is, check out three propaganda videos declaring their stance on Dr. Caster’s controversial experiments:

Besides those brand new viral videos, a new featurette has been released featuring the cast and crew discussing the movie. It’s your run of the mill interviews and clips spliced together for promotional purposes, but since Morgan Freeman is among those sharing their thoughts on the upcoming film, it’s worth checking out. Here it is, followed by the film’s official synopsis:

Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn and best friend Max Waters, both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.
