When the 2012 critically aclaimed surprise hit ‘Chronicle‘ made $126 million worldwide on a $12 million budget, it was no surprise that a sequel was going to happen. While the author of the original film Max Landis (‘Frankenstein‘, ‘Good Time Gang’) was set to scribe the sequel, we found out that later that he was off the project as Fox wanted to go a different direction than he had wanted to pen. That may worry some fans but those who are hoping for a sequel to be made should be happy to hear that there is a new writer in town and that writer is Jack Stanley!

I hear crickets chirping. While Stanley is not a familiar name as a screenwriter, he does have two scripts that have hit the Black List. The first one is titled ‘Sweetheart’ which is “the story of a female assassin whose attempt to get out of the biz is thrown awry by her high school reunion” and the second is called ‘Silver’ that is a werewolf thriller. Both scripts are in the running to be produced.

Currently the original director Josh Trank is busy with the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot and has not yet been attached to the project but at the same time none of the other actors including Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Kelly have been attached either. Sure you may want to throw out at me that they are mostly not logically able to rejoin the cast due to (*SPOILERS*) deaths in the film (the film came out 2 years ago and this is about the sequel so if you want to cry “spoiler” you are a couple years too late) but there is always flashback scenes or whatever gave them powers could potentially heal them through dying.

That’s the beauty of science fiction.

So what do you think of a new writer on board with no produced titles to his name? Are you excited for more of a look into the world of ‘Chronicle’ or are you worried that with Fox and Landis disagreeing on the direction for the next film that this may end badly for all of us?
