‘Game of Thrones’ has managed to mix drama, politics and sexuality into quite an addictive mix. However, most of the nudity on display has been of the female kind… not that there’s anything wrong with that. But Kit Harrington, who portrays the dreamy Jon Snow on the hit HBO series, admits that it’s “only fair” that the male actors also bare their… well, bareness.
“It’s only right, if you’re going to make a show where nudity and sex is a large part of it, that you be a part of that,” he stated to GQ magazine. So far the racy fantasy series has frequently showcased its female leads in full nudity from the front and behind, but the only male actor to appear in full frontal nudity was Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy. (Kristian Nairn as Hodor also appeared naked from the front, but the actor admitted he was wearing a prosthetic… um, you know.)
Yes, there have been several naked male bums on the show including Jamie Lanister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and what appeared to be Harrington’s/Jon Snow’s, but the actor admits to using a body double. “When it came down to it, I had a broken ankle, so the only time you saw my ass, it wasn’t my ass.” Sounds like he wants to make up for that by bearing his actual flesh for the public. Well, sort of. “I wouldn’t say I’d be happy about it. It would have to be f***ing well deserved.”
Oh it’s deserved and appreciated, Mr. Harrington! But the fact that female actors are just expected to give it all up, while males are allowed to keep their “modesty” intact is a pretty blatant double standard. Time to flash some flesh fellas!
