The latest featurette for ‘Transcendence is out and I feel it gives a better view of what the film is about than any of the other trailers that we’ve seen to date. In fact we’re just over a month away from the release of the star studded take on mankind merging with machinery in a bid to extend a life and possibly live forever. With how amazing of a cast it has which inclues Johnny Depp (‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’,’Dark Shadows’), Morgan Freeman (‘Oblivion‘,’Se7en’), and Rebecca Hall (‘Iron Man 3‘,’The Prestige’) it is absolutely amazing that so little advertising has been done for it. I guess that’s what happens to offbeat science fiction these days.

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed—to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

With artificial intelligence on the rise the technology exists for transferring a human consciousness into a machine. At least it does in this cinematic world as we’re probably still about thirty years out in the real world. Still, the film is going to bring up a lot of questions hidden in science fiction. Seems to be quit the popular genre to bring up such thought provoking questions of is this something we should do? Will it rob us of our humanity? I can’t wait to see what other related subjects that they’ll be touching upon.

So has the most recent featurette have you curious on this mix of man and machinery that the film is promising? Do you feel that it has given us more information than the previous trailers? Are you excited to see it? Share your thoughts below!

‘Transcendence’ starring Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins Jr., Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany will be released on April 17, 2014.
