With ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘ hitting the big screen on June 27th of this year it shouldn’t be surprising that we’ll be getting a tie in video game. What might be surprising, though, is that a new multi-platform title was just announced but will not be sharing the same name as the movie. Instead it will be titled ‘Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark’ and has a new take on Transformers that should be exciting for long term fans of the franchise! It won’t be just the Cinematic or the classic Cybertron universe but will instead be “marrying two different universes, the Transformers Cybertron universe and the Michael Bay ‘Transformers’ universe.”

Check out the game’s announcement trailer below:

A representative from Activision has been reaching out to let us know that we’ll be able to play characters from both the classic works as well as the current Michael Bay films for one ongoing story line. During the campaign you’ll go through as both Autobots and Decepticons depending on the level and a fun bonus is Grimlock will be in there as well.

I’m not going to lie, the thought of being able to smash in Bay’s version of ‘Transformers’ with the classic ones has my interest peaked.

Back from previous games, there will also be an extinction mode which is a horde-based combat with over 40 playable characters that you are able to choose from. Also the ranking system that you level your characters with will stretch between both the single and multiplayer gaming modes so that power ups and upgrades earned in one will also be available in the other.

The game itself will be released on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U, and 3DS. It’s truly giving you the option to play the game on your console of choice.

While the cinematic universe has never been viewed as part of canon for the classic Transformers line what do fans of the series think of this crossover game? Are you excited to see it happen or annoyed that these two worlds are mixing?
