Well it looks as if NBC has found their Rosemary for their upcoming take on the classic of ‘Rosemary’s Baby‘ in Zoe Saldana (‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘,’Guardians of the Galaxy‘). This will be an interesting role for Saldana as she has played quite a few stronger character to date and Rosemary doesn’t fall into that category in the slightest. In ‘Avatar’ she did the voice of Neytiri, in ‘Star Trek’ she was portrayed Uhura, and in the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film she’ll be playing Gamora who is one of the strongest women in the galaxy.

So going from those roles to playing Rosemary Woodhouse is going to be an interesting change for anyone familiar with the source material or original film.

It’s a good thing casting happened as production was due to begin this month in Paris. Agnieszka Holland (‘The Killing’, ‘The Wire’) will be directing and that almost makes fans of his work prefer this would be an ongoing series as he’s known for and not a mini-series. I’m curious as to what he’ll put together in the constraints of a shorter timeline!

Book Synopsis:

Rosemary Woodhouse and her struggling actor–husband, Guy, move into the Bramford, an old New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and only elderly residents. Neighbours Roman and Minnie Castavet soon come nosing around to welcome them; despite Rosemary’s reservations about their eccentricity and the weird noises that she keeps hearing, her husband starts spending time with them. Shortly after Guy lands a plum Broadway role, Rosemary becomes pregnant, and the Castavets start taking a special interest in her welfare; as the sickened Rosemary becomes increasingly isolated, she begins to suspect that the Castavets’ circle is not what it seems.
