Quite a few fans around the world have wondered when we’ll see Hugh Jackman (‘Real Steel‘) don one of Wolverine’s classic outfits in the X-Men movies. While the classic costume has been teased in a deleted scene of ‘The Wolverine‘ that is as close as we have been to actually seeing Logan wear it. Recently in an interview the director of the ‘The Wolverine’, James Mangold, sat down and gave some insight on why he felt Wolverine hasn’t worn the costume to date.

Finding the rationale for a uniform when the character disdains self promotion, why he would put on some outfit that promotes himself as some kind of hero? It’s like Dirty Harry didn’t walk around with special outfit,” Mangold said. “There’s a difficult line to walk. He’s not a showoff, he’s the last one to put on a team jersey. The flesh and blood character is very loyal to that iconoclastic rebel who doesn’t seem to be the first to don spandex. It isn’t something I’ve talked about much. Some fans may be frustrated, but we’re trying to be true to his character. Who knows whether that will change, I cannot verify and will not deny.

That does make sense with the character that they’ve developed on screen for him so far. With the creators needing a reason that could all come to a head sooner than you think! While it could very well be limited, we’ve see in the promos for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ that Magneto and Professor X have donned similar outfits. That could be a future X-Men look that even everyone’s favorite Canadian super-hero ends up wearing. Part of the film, after all, is set in the future and this would have given Wolverine plenty of time to warm up to being on a team, especially against mutant hunting sentinels. Another option would be if Wolverine ends up being a member of  the upcoming ‘X-Force’ film. As he was one of the key members in the last iteration of the comic and in Fox’s big seller, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Wolverine showed up on the team. Seeing him and Cable being disagreeable together would be fun and could lead into at least the black and white X-Force uniform if not a variation of it.

So while Mangold hasn’t shut the door on Wolverine showing up in a costume, it does look like they have restrictions on why he would. It also looks like there will be in the next film (and possibly the next two) a reason for it to happen.

What do you think? Should Wolverine be able to don one of his classic comic uniforms? Do either the ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ film or if he’s a part of it the ‘X-Force’ film give a reason for him to suit up? Share your thoughts below!
