As with anything involving J.J. Abrams and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, take this with a grain of salt, but it appears that two major character descriptions have leaked, as the production is rumored to be holding open casting calls in the UK.  Previously, several known actors and actresses have been rumored to have been in talks or to have possibly even auditioned (Chloe Grace Moretz, Saoirse Ronan, Rachel Hurd-Wood and Michael B. Jordan), but it would appear the producers are casting their net wider in hopes of finding just the right performers.

With Disney holding firm to a 2015 release, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have taken over screen writing duties from Michael Arndt, but it seems that Arndt’s basic story will remain and that Abrams and Kasdan are simply building on top of that.

And while it’s all but certain that the big names from the original trilogy (Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill) will return, it will be most likely in order to set up a new younger cast of headliners.

Here are the two descriptions, although I strongly believe the names are just “place holders” and that they will be given more “Star Wars-y” names in the final script.

Rachel: Was young when she lost her parents. With no other family, she was forced to make her way in a tough, dangerous town. Now 17, she has become street smart and strong. She is able to take of herself using humor and guts to get by. Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful that she can move away from this harsh existence to a better life. She is always thinking of what she can do to move ahead.

Thomas: Has grown up without a father’s influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself, despite that he is smart, capable and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdity in life and understands you can’t take life too seriously.

So we’re looking for a tough, street smart female character and a comedic, unmotivated young man.  Kinda sounds like a Disney movie.  Oh wait… technically, it is!

It’s been rumored that the offspring of the original characters would be the main characters in this new film, so is Rachel the daughter of Han and Leia?  In that case, does her description mean that they are dead?  Or does she think they are dead, only to face a “I am your father”-esque twist?

But like I said, with any ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ news at this point, take it with a grain of salt, especially with J.J. Abrams at the helm.

But that’s the latest update.  What do you think?  Are you intrigued by these descriptions?
