It sounds like ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘ will not only be shown in IMAX, but will really embrace the technology in an interesting way.  A new featurette has been released that not only includes previously unseen footage from the spectacular-looking film, but director Francis Lawrence and star Jennifer Lawrence (no relation) both discuss the process of filming the movie for IMAX, including using the format to punctuate a very important scene.

Check out the video below:

As Francis Lawrence stated, the beginning of the movie was shot in normal scale, but in IMAX showings, the moment she rises into the arena, the screen will expand to full size.  (I similar technique was used in ‘Oz, The Great and Powerful.’)  The film looks grand and sweeping, so it should look amazing on the huge IMAX screen!

The film doesn’t hit until November 22, but the publicity machine is already moving, with the cast adorning four different covers for ‘Entertainment Weekly.’  The covers feature tight close-ups of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne and newcomer Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, the golden boy who was one of the most famous former winners of The Hunger Games.

Check them out:

If the movie is faithful to the novels, Gale’s part is still fairly small, but I guess being a female-targeted YA series, they need to sell the love-triangle.  And Finnick was sort of set up to be a third heartthrob that also flirts with Katniss.  They’re almost like a boy band now, one for every taste!

This issue of ‘Entertainment Weekly’ should hit stores and subscribers on Friday.  Sometimes subscribers get all four covers on one magazine… but sometimes they don’t.  If not is there one in particular you want?  Or do you plan to collect all four?

Fandango is reporting that according to their research, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ is the single most anticipated movie of the fall season with general audiences and the site is even offering advanced tickets now, nearly two months before the film’s release on November 22, 2013.
