There’s been a lot going on in the world of Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Sherlock’) with rumors and half told news lately. The star has hit the geek (and non-geek) world by storm, and with his success in ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘, everyone wants to know where he will show up next! Although, today we don’t find out what we’ll be seeing the star act in down the line, we do see him address the two bit pieces of news that have been swirling around him as of late for both ‘Crimson Peak‘ and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘.

Originally, we know he had signed on to star in ‘Crimon Peak’ though he ended up dropping out of the film.

Why did he leave?

Initially it was due to the rumor earlier this month that he had joined the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’.

He was quick to address those rumors and let the world know he wasn’t involved, although he did expand on that by saying:

“I don’t know. Who knows, who knows? Nothing is known of that. I worked with JJ. Obviously he knows. Everyone who wants to be part of that movie, they know about.”

Still, if he didn’t leave for a ‘Star Wars’ role, one has to ask why Cumberbatch ended up leaving the upcoming Guillermo del Toro (‘Pacific Rim‘) horror film ‘Crimson Peak’? Well it doesn’t look like we’re going to find out anytime soon, but it does sounds like he left on good terms.

“That was nothing to do with it at all. [It was] between me and Guillermo, to be honest. It was amicable, and that’s all I’m going to say.”

I’m OK with not knowing and even more OK with hearing that it was amicable as it may prove to give us a future collaboration between the two. At least not all is lost for the film as he was replaced by Tom Hiddleston (‘The Avengers‘). So even though it’s a shame Cumberbatch is out, with how huge of a fan of Loki Hiddleston I am, that’s OK in my book!

What will we see Cumberbatch sign on for next? I’m sure quite a few are still hoping for the next ‘Star Wars’ installment but any major science fiction feature would probably do! In the meantime, we can catch him voicing the fierce dragon Smaug in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’
