Earlier this summer, we learned that ‘Terminator 5’ would actually act as sort of a reboot to the futuristic franchise started by James Cameron. When the official press release went out to announce this news, there was no word about the involvement of series star Arnold Schwarzenegger and rumored co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. However, we now have some details about who will helm the project.

According to Variety, Alan Taylor is currently in talks to direct the new ‘Terminator’ movie from Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions, and Annapurna Pictures. The filmmaker is best known for his work on ‘Game of Thrones’ and the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Thor: The Dark World’ where he’s dealt with the likes of dragons, god, and elves in fantasy realms. Though if this deal goes through, he’ll be preparing to leave the lands of Westeros and Asgard and head back to an Earth filled with futuristic destruction at the hands of cyborgs and robotics. It’ll be interesting to see how he fares with a more reality-based, technological story rather than something more fantastical.

Again, we don’t get any details about the story or how it will fit in with the other movies, but the report reiterates that this new ‘Terminator’ will be the first film in a new stand-alone trilogy. We also know that this project is set to be released on June 26, 2015, so chances are that we’ll be hearing more about this sooner rather than later.

What do you think about Alan Taylor directing the next ‘Terminator’ movie? How do you think that his past experience will help him in setting the stage for John and Sarah Connor (if they’re even still involved)? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
