The movie adaptation of the comic ‘Lore’ has been going strong in preperation for filming. That is, until Barry Sonnenfeld (‘Men in Black’) just recently stepped down from directing the film after being unable to agree with the studio on a budget. The director of ‘Men in Black 3‘ would have been a good fit having already directed 3 films about secret agents dealing with mysterious threats.

While he’s out as a director he will still be on board as an executive producer.

So, of course, that means they need to find a new director, and they did in newcomer David Green (‘Echo’) who just finished his first full length film which will coming out by Disney on January 10th of next year. ‘Echo’ was a bit of a low budget film, so he’s an interesting choice to throw ‘Lore’ at considering it will be having a much larger budget. I’m curious as to what he’s going to do. With ‘Echo’, Green had a budget of $5 million. ‘Lore’, on the other hand, will be starring Dwayne Johnson (‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation ‘) who will probably cost nearly that much by himself.

The comic is by IDW and written by Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise. The graphic novel is being converted to a script by Cory Goodman (‘Priest‘) and newcomer Jeremy Lott. The rights to the film were picked up by Warner Brothers in April of 2012 and we are now finally seeing some movement on it.

The summary of the comic that the film will be based upon is as follows:

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures—creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back…
