This weekend, as part of the festivities of San Diego Comic-Con, the comic book industry will gather together and celebrate the achievements of their own from the past year at the Eisner Awards. But while the Eisners are considered the Oscars of comics, there are other awards out there that are just as important. For example, there’s the Harvey Awards, which are presented as part of Baltimore Comic-Con in the fall.
Named in honor of cartoonist, writer, editor, and comics genius Harvey Kurtzman, the Harveys recognize excellence in such categories as Best Writer, Best Artist, Most Promising New Talent, and more. Last year, writer Mark Waid and his team behind ‘Daredevil’ took home 4 out of 6 awards that they were up for. Now it’s time to see who the potential winners are for this year.
As expected, some of the year’s best titles like Matt Fraction’s ‘Hawkeye’ and Brian K. Vaughn’s ‘Saga’ are represented in multiple categories. There are some surprises too such as Dennis Hopeless of ‘Avengers Arena’ being nominated for Most Promising New Talent. You can see the complete list of Harvey Awards nominees below.
