Last week, we learned that Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson would be cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and saved for the third film due out in 2016 in order to streamline Peter Parker’s story. Reports also indicated that it was “likely” that the actress wouldn’t return for the role despite director Marc Webb’s comments saying that she “is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her.” Now, rumor has it that MJ has already recast with another new up and coming actress.

According to Collider, Entertainment Tonight Canada shared the following tweet revealing that ‘Cosmopolis’ and ‘Antiviral’ star Sarah Gadon would be joining the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ gang:

While not mentioning who she’ll be playing or which film she’ll be appearing in, many thought that  Sony might be looking to lock down their Mary Jane for the ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’, so they jumped on that as fast as they could. There was also the chance that Webb was just playing nice and Woodley didn’t actually fit their vision of MJ, so the studio was bringing in another actress to reshoot her scenes for the current film.

But apparently, that’s not the case. Once news got out that she had joined the cast, the actress took to her Twitter page to dispel any rumors about her upcoming role in the ongoing Spidery series:

With Gwen Stacy and (most likely) Felicia Hardy already spoken for, who else is there to play? Actually, that’s a pretty ridiculous question. Peter Parker has many ladies in his life, so it’s possible that Gadon could be Debra Whitman, a girl that he meets at Empire University and dates for a period of time, or Liz Allan, a high school crush that ends up dating Harry Osborn. There’s also Betty Brant from the Daily Bugle. For all we know, she could even be Spider-Woman or Firestar. They’re both some of the Spider-Man’s amazing friends, right?

Peter really got around in his day.

Whoever she ends up playing, it’s likely that we’ll know who Sarah Gadon is playing in Webb’s Spidey-verse sooner rather than later. The official announcement could even come up at Comic-Con next month. But until then, who do you think that the actress will play in the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise? Give us your guesses in the comment section.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, and Sally Field is set to hit theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014.
