Poor Felicity Jones! Every time something comes up about her in regards to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, bigger news overshadows it. First, when her casting was announced, Paul Giamatti joined the cast as the Rhino at the very same time, so little attention was given to the wonderful indie actress (and one time ‘Doctor Who’ guest star). Now, while Spidey fans have their attention on Mary Jane Watson getting cut from Marc Webb’s follow-up to his 2012 film, they might have missed out on the news that Jones’ role has potentially been revealed.
In an interview with Flicks and the City (via /Film) about her latest film ‘Breathe In’, the actress spoke a bit about the differences in working on independent features and larger-scaled productions. Then, the conversation shifted to the Black Cat, the superhero alter ego of Felicia Hardy, and her potential involvement in the upcoming installment of the current live-action Spidey franchise. Jones stumbles and stammers over her answer to the question in an interesting manner. You can see her response in the video below:
While one leading lady in Peter Parker’s life is on her way out, another might have just been outted by Felicity Jones. As indicated in the interview, this is her first film of this caliber that requires keeping secrets, so she’s definitely not as practiced at deflecting reporter questions and it shows in her answer. It’s possible that she might have just been confused by the wording of the question since she’ll only be portraying Felicia rather than the Black Cat, but regardless of which version of the character we’ll be seeing, it seems clear that the reporter was certainly onto something based on the actress’ discomfort while giving her answer.
Personally, I would love to see Felicia Hardy be introduced in Marc Webb’s next Spider-Man film, but if he’s already cut out Mary Jane, then what’s to stop him from saving Miss Hardy for the third film as well in order to streamline this movie even further? We haven’t heard any reports of Jones on set at all so it’s unclear just how big of a role she has. For all we know, she could just be a background player like Flash Thompson was. Maybe we’ll find out more at SDCC next month.
