There are a lot of new faces slated to pop up in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. Friends like Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson and foes like Electro and the Rhino have already been spotted on the set of Marc Webb’s next adventure with Andrew Garfield’s Spidey, but there are still a few more suspicious figures that we know next to nothing about still. For example, Colm Feore is a name that’s been attached to this project for some time, yet no one has talked about him yet. Well, a new report seems to indicate that he’ll be playing yet another classic character from the wall-crawler’s rogues gallery.
According to Comic Book Movie, the ‘Face/Off’ and ‘24’ star will be playing Adrian Toomes, who is better known by his supervillain moniker The Vulture. Though he’s a bit older than your average bad guy, the harness that gives Toomes his vulture-like wings provides him with enhanced strength in addition to the ability of flight. But with so many antagonists terrorizing Spider-Man already, won’t this new film suffer one of the fatal flaws of ‘Spider-Man 3’ in that it’s too overloaded with villains?
Well, as I’ve predicted in the past, it appears that the groundwork for the Sinister Six will be laid in this film with Rhino, Electro, Vulture, and the Green Goblin all teaming up and then continuing their reign of destruction into the third installment. No word on who the other two members of the team will be just yet, but it’s possible that the Lizard could return to take revenge on his web-slinging enemy. As for the final member of the evil team, I’m hoping that Mysterio wins the slot because his powers are just begging for the live-action treatment.
But wait a second. Did I say the Green Goblin? Why, indeed I did! According to another CBM report, it appears that Chris Cooper will be donning the goblin gear in this movie, which was something many thought wouldn’t happen until the next one. Apparently Osborn will take up the mantle this time around and will be involved in the movie’s climax, which could potentially lead to the death of Gwen Stacy. Sources say that the costume will resemble armor once again, similar to Sam Raimi’s version, but this time it will be a “matte black and dark green design with spikes”, similar to the Ultimate version of the character, though obviously human.
In another strange turn of events regarding Osborn, a curious set design was discovered for a chamber of sorts. It’s being speculated that the contraption is connected to Norman’s transformation into the Green Goblin, but the description brings up even more questions:
“There is this set that has 3 chambers. The Goblin suit is in one, the spider serum is in another and the last one is Norman’s head!”
While it could just be a prosthetic stand-in for Cooper, it’s possible that Osborn could have died due to his terminal illness that was established in the last movie and this machine brings him back to life. That’s just me thinking out loud, but it could be possible, right?
That’s a lot to take in right now, but after you get yourself sorted, what do you think about this news regarding the Vulture and the Green Goblin? Do you think that there are too many villains in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’? Or are you excited about the Sinister Six coming together to attempt to take down Spider-Man?
