The original Super Smash Bros. was released way back in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, and the series has since established itself as one of Nintendo’s best-selling franchises to date.

We’ve known for quite some time that Nintendo was planning on unveiling the next entry in the crossover fighting franchise, but even Nintendo managed to surprise us with the footage shown. Based on the trailer, which features several clips of gameplay across many new stages, long-time veterans Mario, Fox McCloud, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Bowser, Pikachu, Samus Aran, and the more recently added Pit, will once again be duking it out across always-changing interactive battlegrounds based on popular Nintendo franchises.

Aside from the appearance of The Villager from Animal Crossing as a new player, Nintendo had another trick up its sleeve.

Mega Man has long been requested by Smash fans, with him  being one of the most iconic characters of the original NES library. It was an exciting reveal, to say the least, but gamers are still speculating as to who else is going to be joining this epic battle.

Unfortunately, we still have a long time to wait, as the game won’t be released until 2014, nor does it have an official title. However, the next Super Smash Bros. is set to be released on both Wii U and 3DS and is expected to feature cross-platform multiplayer.
