The upcoming DVD/BluRay release Superman: Unbound features an epic confrontation between the Man of Steel and Brainiac, the evil android responsible for the destruction of Krypton, Kal-El’s planet of origin.  The cover depicts a pretty angry looking Superman, his eyes blazing with energy.  But, in three new video clips, we learn that also center stage in the animated movie is the romance between Clark Kent and Lois Lane… and things seem tense.

Lois, in true Lois fashion, seems to be taking more and more risks in her journalistic investigations, apparently under the assumption that Superman will always be there to save her should things head south.

In interviews with voice actors Matt Bomer (White Collar, In TimeWinter’s Tale) and Stana Katic (Castle, Heroes) discuss portraying their iconic characters and the nature of their relationship in the film.

As you can see, the famous couple’s relationship takes on a modern twist, different from prior depictions.  It would appear that Lois is pressuring Superman into taking their relationship public and the pair must strongly consider the consequences of this action.  It sounds like Superman starts out extremely overprotective of Lois, but over time he comes to discover that she’s capable of taking care of herself, which is something I’ve always liked about her.

As already been reported, the movie also focuses on Supergirl’s struggle to adapt to life on Earth, not to mention the usual adolescent growing pains… and Clark’s struggle to deal with his volatile new relative that he didn’t even know he had.

Of course, there is also the invasion by the evil force of Brainiac.

Here is Warner Brothers’ official description of Superman: Unbound:

Based on the Geoff Johns/Gary Frank 2008 release “Superman: Brainiac,”
SUPERMAN: UNBOUND finds the Man of Steel aptly handling day-to-day
crime while helping acclimate Supergirl to Earth’s customs and managing Lois Lane’s expectations for their relationship. Personal issues take a back seat when the horrific force responsible for the destruction of Krypton – Brainiac – begins his descent upon Earth. Brainiac has crossed the universe, collecting cities from interesting planets – including Supergirl’s home city of Kandor – and now the all-knowing, ever-improving android has his sights fixed on Metropolis. Superman must summon all of his physical and intellectual resources to protect his city, the love of his life and his newly-arrived cousin.

The DVD/BluRay will be out on Tuesday, May 7th, 2013, hopefully drumming up additional excitement for Man of Steel on June 14.
