Now that the ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ character posters have been released, it looks like Paramount will be following them up with character profile featurettes. The first one to debut is Chris Pine and J.J. Abrams talking about what it means to be Captain James Tiberius Kirk.

Ever since starring in the reboot, Pine has had the unenviable position of portraying the iconic Captain of the Enterprise in a way that would not only be respectful to William Shatner’s version but also be able to put his own spin on the character. It looks like he’s succeeded and morein this featurette.

It’s really interesting to watch the two talk about what is motivating Kirk in this sequel. As Pine states, “He kind of wants to prove that he’s the best: that he can get away with all of this.” This certainly explains the sacrifices he’s willing to make in the film.

Take a look at the featurette below as it also includes new footage and some BTS shoots:

‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ opens in theaters on May 17 and in select IMAX theaters on May 15.
