While the Emmy-winning Showtime counterpart of Dexter Morgan is preparing his last kill room, the literary version of the character lives on. Back in 2011, it was announced that creator Jeff Lindsay would be bringing his serial-killing blood spatter expert and his Dark Passenger to Marvel Comics, but things went quiet after the announcement and no release date was revealed. Then, about five months ago, the series based on the best-selling ‘Darkly Dreaming Dexter’ book series was scheduled to hit shelves in February of this year. Here we are in April and still no book. Well, after the long delay, it seems like we finally have a concrete confirmation of when we can get our hands on ‘Dexter’ #1.

The first in this five-issue mini-series from writer Lindsay and artist Dalibor Talajic will be released this July after being delayed quite a bit. The series will be set within the continuity of the novels, so we won’t be seeing Michael C. Hall’s face plastered about, but it will visit a storyline that played out on the show. Similar to the season six episode titled ‘Those Kinds of Things’, Dexter will be attending his high school reunion in this mini-series. Meanwhile, he’ll also be dealing with the Skid Row Slasher, “a rookie serial killer hounding Miami’s finest”.

Mike Del Mundo, who’s created covers for such titles as ‘Marvel Zombies’, ‘Avengers Arena’, and ‘X-Men: Legacy’, has contributed a cover for this new series. You can see it below, along with new details about the series:

• Dexter Morgan isn’t just Miami’s #1 forensic blood splatter expert…he’s also a serial killer who targets other serial killers!

• In this issue, Dexter faces his worst nightmare: his high school reunion!

• Plus, Dexter faces his other worst nightmare: a former classmate with a secret that could destroy him!
