We’ve been hearing news for quite some time now that the PlayStation 2 classic Final Fantasy X would be getting the HD treatment, but very little information has been given since the announcement back in 2011. Finally, we have some new details, and the game is coming soon.

The big surprise, however, is that the game’s sequel, simply titled Final Fantasy X-2, will also be included. Those of you itching to relive Tidus and Yuna’s journey will be happy to know that the Final Fantasy X HD Collection will be coming to both PlayStation 3 and Vita. While the PlayStation 3 versions are packaged together on one disc, Vita owners will be able to download the titles separately, due to storage limitations on the cartridges.

Final Fantasy X is often regarded as one of the best games in the Final Fantasy series, serving as the PlayStation 2’s first entry in the long-running franchise. As with Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X marked a huge step forward for the series, delivering the best graphics and gameplay possible at the time. Its sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, expanded on the story and universe of the original, and was generally well-received by critics.

The newly remastered edition is set to bring new life into both Final Fantasy X and X-2. While there is currently no official release date available, Square Enix has stated that work on the game is about 70 percent complete, and that we will definitely see it released sometime in 2013. In the meantime, check out the official announcement trailer below.
