Last week, we were introduced to the Bubbleship, one of the futuristic vehicles in the world of director Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Oblivion’. Now, in yet another behind the scenes featurette exploring this post-apocalyptic world that the characters played by Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, and company inhabit, IGN offers up a breathtaking look at the structure known as the Sky Tower.

When you see what this massive structure is supposed to look like, it’s fairly obvious that they couldn’t build this colossal set piece, so this new video takes a look at how Kosinski and his team transformed the set on a soundstage into essentially a house in the clouds. You can see just how the crew pulled off this astonishing feat in the video below:

I don’t know about you, but I find the use of practical effects in this day and age to be endlessly fascinating. I loved that they actually got the footage of where the Sky Tower would be and projected it onto the set so as to light the actors naturally. It’s just completely genius to me.

For more information on the film, here’s the official synopsis:

On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

Jack Harper is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth.  Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft.  Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
