Yesterday, to celebrate the home video release of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, Warner Bros. and Peter Jackson presented a special Q&A only for the people that purchased the Blu-Ray and DVD. Not only were they treated to the exclusive chat with the mastermind behind all of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ films, but fans were given the first look at the next installment of the series, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’.

Naturally, many of the videos were taken down right away, but seeing as the internet never lets anything really disappear, it was hard to track down the video to view the clip featuring Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey and Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown venturing through a dangerous cavern. My search for the footage led me to Cosmic Book News where, lo and behold, there it was, untouched by studio hands thus far. So, be sure to head over there to watch it quickly before it gets taken down. I’d share it here, but unfortunately, there’s no embed for the video.

While there’s no dragons, hobbits, or dwarves yet, it was a pretty cool first look at the two wizards being adventurous. But that’s not all that was revealed during this live chat. According to MTV, director Jackson also showed off some behind the scenes footage featuring new cast members Evangeline Lilly, who will play the red-headed elvish bodyguard, Tauriel, and Luke Evans, who will play Bard the Bowman. Plus, there was a cameo from Orlando Bloom as Legolas, confirming that we’ll be seeing the Fellowship of the Ring member popping up in the next ‘Hobbit’ movie.

What do you think of the first look at ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’? Are you looking forward to seeing the next installment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ starring Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Elijah Wood, and Benedict Cumberbatch is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2013.
